Chuck Schmalzried has crafted a remarkable legacy in the home-building and construction industry. With a fervent passion for hard work and its transformative power, Chuck now serves as the Co-Owner of Michelle Construction, a home-building company near Devil’s Lake in Michigan. In this role, Chuck Schmalzried and his partner, Michelle (Micky), leverage their extensive experience to deliver unique, high-quality homes. Michelle Construction is renowned for its excellent craftsmanship, creating residences that blend timeless beauty with modern appeal.
Chuck’s journey in construction began during the summers of high school. Chuck Schmalzried honed a valuable skill set under the guidance of a skilled carpenter and his father’s tutelage during downtime around the house. At the time, he did not know how profoundly this knowledge would shape his future. After high school, Chuck Schmalzried briefly attended college but soon realized his true calling lay beyond the conventional path. This realization led him to enlist in the United States Air Force, where his life trajectory would significantly turn.
Chuck Schmalzried served in the Air Force from 1986 to 1992 and actively participated in Operation Desert Storm. His military service instilled in him a deep understanding of hard work and discipline, qualities that would later become integral to his career in construction. After an honorable discharge, Chuck Schmalzried settled in Ohio and joined the Ohio National Guard. During this period, he took on various construction jobs, further refining his skills until 1998, when he partnered with his father to establish Schmalzried Custom Homes. Despite the eventual disbandment of this business, Chuck’s passion for building remained undeterred, leading him to his current cherished role at Michelle Construction.
Beyond his technical skills and craftsmanship, Chuck Schmalzried treasures the meaningful relationships he forms with the people for whom he builds homes. He lives by the motto “homes over houses,” dedicated to creating spaces where families can grow, create lasting memories, and cultivate love. For Chuck Schmalzried, the true reward of his work lies in building homes that become the heart of his clients’ lives.
